think fuse wire prolly to soft but i have some stuff at work that will prolly do the trick.
we may not have had it warmed proper, it was a slightly chilly night between rain showers
I guess some would see it as a challenge to get their head blown off. Some of the more modern ones, eg. Tilley are multifuel and if using petrol or white spirits don't need preheating.

I recall, many years ago a family camping at Arrowtown in a large tent were using two Tilley lamps hanging on the centre pole, one above the other, both using white spirits. The heat rising from the lower one increased the pressure in the tank of the top one and either the safety valve blew or the tank exploded. Not sure, but I think one was killed and all the family, kids included were scarred for life.

You're prolly right about fuse wire being too soft, I was trying to remember what we used, when we couldn't find the proper pricker). It was nichrome wire as used on the porcelain bars of the old bar heaters. It's quite stiff.

    Was gunna say..fun police.

Had plenty of prickers around that night, and I was the smallest of them all but of no use for the task on hand

True... we used to use that too, in a jam, but I'd completely forgotten about that. (Early onset of Alzheimer's due to 12 years at the aluminium smelter).

Mounting it to the front of the bike for intimidation purposes, but now I v'e changed my mind and intend to use it to melt snow in front of the bike.
