    Returning rider. Hi Y'all (oldiebutagoody)

    Hiya.

Returning rider after many a year. Sold the last bike to pay school fees and feed the animals about ten years ago. Rode for about 18 years continuously, including a 3 year stint courier in AK in the early-mid nineties.

Just bought a '92 gsx600f, needs a little TLC and new tyres (due in couple of days). Its red so it must go faster right?

Some things are very different, some things seem to be very much the same. Back into it cautiously (doing ongoing retraining) now after being widowed.

Anybody hereabouts used to hang in Darby street in the early-mid Eighties?

Am into long rides on the beach, and curling up with a good workshop manual...........

    cheers

Yep, had a high of 5 today and the snow has started getting a bit heavier, whats the bet my wimpy mates back out of our forest ride tomorrow. May have to go solo.

put a ski on the front and call it a snowbike...

Will be bugger all snow in the forest I think, too much rain in the last couple of days. But the guys I was going with are not fans of wet and cold, and are scared of tree roots. Will take the camera though if I get out, for sure.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, as you were.

The roads hereabouts are good generally...........I have driven them heaps in the cage over the years. ParaParas about a dozen times a year over the last 18 years, so very familiar. Planning on the "forgotten world" highway at some point. Perhaps round Mt Taranaki.

I got a couple things to get sussed first on the bike, tyres, suspension settings are all out of whack (musta been a fat dude), typical gsx rough idle (could be old fuel, or fuel from Gull in the tank). Starts fine cold, when warm idle dies away slowly, sometimes cuts out when you come to a stop if you don't blip the throttle. Could be a simple idle adjustment, carbie balance, or shit in the bowls, could be a carbie strip and clean, could need a petrol tap petcock rebuild/ vacuum leak, who knows. That is what I bought it for though,........a hobby.

Then to top that off I have to rebuild confidence.

Welcome back to biking. Not a bad bike to start back with. Yeah give them carbs the once over, can't hurt. Have fun.

Now the Wanganui River road has been sealed all the way that makes a nice run and then up to Raetihi, someone else down your way mentioned Fields Track - that's on my bucket list, and one Jatz did, though not on a sport bike!, is the Turakina Valley Road - also on the bucket list...

Plus that famous route - 'follow the nose'
