    Wellington Xmas Bash?

    Hi Folks...

    Feckin hell.... OCTOBER already already...

So we still have time to have a think about a wellies KB xmas bash...

Some clever clogs might turn this into a poll or something but I'd like to get peoples opinion on what you would like to do this year?

We are happy to host it again at Raumati BUT perhaps you folks rather do something else or go someplace closer to town? Maybe lunch time ride to a domain and set up a BBQ (QE2 Plark) or summat. Go to a cafe for a fixed menu, pub, I dunno.... Massed xmas ride down Courtenay Place? Maybe even have a joint wellie / auckland one in the middle of the island...

    Your thoughts please.....

    Paul N

ps - anyone else wants to step up and do this, feel free..... I'll even help...

An enmasse ride somewhere promenant (sp) would be excellent. Capture the imagination of the public and raise the awareness and have some fun at the same time. Courtney place would be cool...

Now let's be sensible about this...

What we need is a venue that will accommodate 30-plus KBers and hangers on, that works in both wet and dry weather. We need something that involves a bit of a ride. And we need something on a Saturday so that Mrs H and others who work Sunday nights can come along.

Hitcher's suggestion number 1: The Avoca Hotel at Upokongaro (just up the river road from Wanganui). Great spot, garden bar, good food, good beers (and a corgi well known already to some of our number). Central enough to pull some punters from central regions and Taranaki.

Well for a change lets ride as fast as we can over the takas, then ride back and pull lots of wheelies down SH2 into Wellington where we can park in disabled parking bays.

The wanganui things sounds OK but it's a sad ride up that way. I say lets head over to Lake Ferry for a few and beers, that way we can stay there overnight if required.

following hitchers idea...riders local to upuk could meet there for a kinda meet n greet and sorting of ride rules etc [good to newbies to group rides like myself] and then head to welly perhaps?

Depends which way you go to Wanganui, but point taken. Lake Ferry is a good idea.

A good days trip, ferry down to picton, do the Queen Charlotte Drive ride into Nelson for lunch. Across to Blenheim for a coffee pitstop.
    Back onto a 6-7pm sailing.

May cost abit more, but bound to be an awesome days outing! One the partners will love too. Money well spent I'd say. Does anybody know if the bikes cost the same as a passenger still?

Try this for my timetable: 7am sailing, arrives picton 10am. Ride into Nelson at Midday. Depart Nelson at 1.30 arriving blenheim at 3.30, Leave Blenheim 4.30 arriving picton by 5.30 for a 6-7 sailing depending on whether we play miniput!

    Whoa...

Lets not get too much detail 'just' yet.... Just bike brush strokes...

So I take it that thus far, a ride is more popular than a party? Lets get that sorted and go from there....

    So......

    um....

jumping to the detail.... wot about the 'beyond the bridge cafe' We could do a deal and book the place out...

    Oooops, Let me re-phrase!

    Ride South!

Just curious though, has anybody here done a similar day trip? Does it work well?

Dafe - the only thing is that going on the ferry is real expensive for us student types if its just for a day. Could still be convinced though cause it would be an awesome day out. Lake Ferry sounds like the best easy option. Would be cool to do something a little bit diff though I guess. That's my uncommital 2c worth anyway.

    Good idea Paul.

Having said that, we're away every w/end in December so won't be able to participate.

FWIW, if we were going to be going, I'd not be keen on the SI idea - would prefer to stay in the NI. I like the Upkongaro idea to meet some other KBers from out of Wgtn.

Yeah, that was my only concern. It does come down to whether the younger ones can dig up the cash, It's not exactly the best time of year for it either. But I've thrown the idea into the air to see what transpires.
I have also thrown the SI idea onto the e-Riders website to see what comes of it. If it happens there I'll post a link here.

I like the SI idea but....

Frankly, if I'm going to go to all that fag of getting on the ferry... (3 hours each way in one day is a bit much for this old geezer) Then I reckon a couple of nights and a bit of a tour is the go... Much like we did last year and are still thinking of doing in the autumn...

December is a bugger of a time, everyone has a christmas party or a do to attend nearly every weekend and it's hard to fit it all in.. However, KB has become quite a decent little community and as such, I reckon it would be nice if we marked this time of the year with a bit of a do!

Going for a ride is OK but.... Well going to the Wairarapa again.... Hmm.. Dunno..

Lets give it the rest of the day and see if anyone else is keen on doing something and then, if there are no takers... The thread will quietly disappear and nothing more shall be said..
