More Turn Signal stuff

Hey again.

So I have my turn signals working from a new AC electronic relay. They work fine when the main headlight is off, but as soon as I turn on the headlight they don't flash anymore, just stay on all the time, until I cancel the switch.

I have double checked the wiring and can't see any issues. The bulbs are normal incandescent 10w.

I have a single power AC feed from my AC regulator that supplies power to my headlight. I have spliced a cable off of this lead to provide power to my flasher relay, which then feeds into the turn signal switch unit, and onto the turn signals themselves.
The headlight and turn signal bulbs all share the same earth connection.

So my thinking currently is that what might be happening is as it's an AC circuit, the current flows both ways around, and when the headlight is on, current can flow back along the shared earth from the headlight and light the turn signal bulbs, overriding the flashing signal from the relay.

Does this sound correct?

If so is it just a case of putting a diode on each turn signal earth wire to stop current flowing back from earth?

Or I am just completely wrong about this?

this bit. probably. unless your headlight is switched on the negative side.

Sounds like you got your relay wired up incorrectly....
Get power to relay from battery.
Signal wire from indicator.
Power out from relay to flasher unit...

No battery on this bike, and the wiring is correct, power to relay comes from regulator, then there is an earth, and a flasher output from the relay which goes to the indicator switch block....

Further testing reveals that the indicators work fine with the headlight is on, its only when the brakes are applied and the brake light is on that they stop flashing.....

Bet you he'll cheap out and not fork out a couple of extra bucks for the synthetic...

Sketch out a wiring diagram or at least describe how the brakes and indicators share a circuit... You can't expect useful help from us without providing useful information first.

here is the wiring diagram from stock.

what has changed is that the live feed for the turn signal relay now comes directly from the yellow (Y) circuit that supplies power to the headlight. previously the indicators were controlled from the regulator which has a built in relay (that will not work with my new handlebar switchblock as it has 2 outputs).

what I have now figured out is that its a current issue - when the headlight is on the indicators will work fine, until the brakes are applied and the revs drop - then there is not enough power to get the relay to work.

So i am going to try and LED tail/brake bulb to reduce the load.....
