Changing rear sprocket from 41 teeth to 39

Advice wanted! I have been thinking about changing my rear sprocket on a gn 250 Suzuki from the standard 41 to a 39 to get a slight difference in revs at high speed which will better suit the type of riding that I do. I was wondering if I need to alter anything about the chain or front sprocket?

Two teeth at the rear isn't a huge change, but it'll be too much for a GN. At 100kph on standard gearing it is very close to having nothing left to accelerate. I predict all you will achieve is taking longer to get to 100ks, and having to hold the throttle on the stop to maintain it.

If your chain is in good nick, you will probably have enough adjustment to change the sprocket and not cut the chain.

What he said. It's a 'moderate' powered 250. Time to consider a larger capacity engine possibly.
