Spybot S&D

I seem to have a problem with some adware that has installed itself into the system - called something like "tpnads".

In the past I have used spybot to remove such stuff. However, the latest download of Spybot refuses to do a "total system scan" for a reason that continues to elude me. Any ideas? Or other software that would do the same job?

System runs W7 64 bit, home edition.

+1 with Malware bytes. I have the Pro version which is essentially "fire and forget" after you've set up a suitable check schedule. I've also used Webroot Secure Anywhere Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware for a few years. It gets great reviews and doesn't hog your computer like some other apps. alternatively roll back to one of your backups previous to the infection.

Turn off bit defender.
If that does not help try running spy bot in 32 bit compatibility. An earlier signature may not be blocked.
