    Vendors for bike accessories?

There is an old thread around here from 2007 where a person was asking where to order a Puig windscreen in NZ. The response was to order it from a site in America.

I'm actually interested in ordering a Puig windscreen, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a NZ (or AU) shop that is reasonable in both price and shipping for bike toys? I know they tend to be specific to each model of bike, and it's a bit of a stretch to expect anybody to have stock in our little neck of the woods - but do you normally buy from your local dealer....from a speed shop...or do you order from overseas every time?

In theory in addition to my windscreen, at some point I'll be interested in ordering protective parts (frame/axle/swingarm sliders) and some other bits. If there were a local shop who brought in stuff from overseas periodically might be able to do it more cheaply than I could, by shipping each individual bit. From America, a Puig windscreen is $40 US for 1 month shipping (no tracking) or $80 US for 2 week shipping - and that's for a screen worth just over $100 US in total.

    Cheers,

You have asked a fairly "how long is a piece of string?" question. It really does depend. If shipping is an issue, try somewhere like Revzilla that offers flat rate shipping to NZ or use the YouShop facility offered by NZ Post.

Some dealers are more interested in getting you what you want than others. Since getting my Aprilia, my dealer has pretty much advised sourcing my own after market stuff, in one instance that even included genuine Aprilia aftermarket gear! They have been helpful and happily fitted parts and gear I got hold of overseas, so I am not at all unhappy with their service. I just have to be aware of the limitations of the service offered.

Any NZ based supplier is always going to be up against it when trying to stock the insane range of lines of accessories available. Not many will routinely go past the NZ distribution network so you are probably on your own.

I know it's not quite what you're asking for, but I bought a Puig screen from Germany and got a great price including shipping.

I use both local vendors and overseas stores. Locally I use http://www.fastbikegear.co.nz/ . Carry a decent range, are good to deal with, and reasonably priced. When shopping locally I just go for what the vendors carry, and don't ask for other brands/items. For other stuff I use European vendors on ebay. Stuff from Europe tends to be cheaper than from the USA, not to mention exchange rates. I'd also look at Revzilla as they carry a huge range, are super friendly to deal with, and have a flat shipping rate to NZ.

Appreciate the responses, have previously bought from Revzilla, but they don't ship windscreens to NZ. Will check into the others, and into Europe vendors.

I used a guy on ebay from Europe for my Puig screen. Can't remember the name but screen arrived safe and sound. Have you looked at Powerbronze (http://www.powerbronzeaustralia.com/)? Out of the UK, with a distributor in Aus. Awesome products, great prices, great packaging, though takes a while to get here.

I used the same store (TuningBike) but the username was different: http://www.ebay.com/usr/it-tuningbik...p2047675.l2559. Just make sure to tell 'em to package it in bubblewrap and then in the box.

Well, my dealer advised the only windscreen they could offer was the Yamaha part for over $500. I bought the Puig from an Ebay vendor in Italy for $100 plus shipping.

I will look at some of the other vendors suggested - as I'll have other things I want to purchase.

Looking for 2008 KLR650 Parts in NZ.

Does anyone know what is a best site or supplier for used or cheaper parts and accessories for a 2008 Kawasaki KLR650? Have just purchased one and it is due to be delivered to me sometime in the next week or so, and I am just looking around at where you can parts and other things when I get around to it. Cheers.
