    Xs400 cafe build

So I picked up this wee 78 xs400 smurf gem last year for a steal, dead reg, but running and majority of everything there!
Plan is to strip it back to bare bones, fresh powdercoat and paint all over, new grips, controls, lights all round, dashs of leather here and there, kick only with keyless, switchless ignition with proximity rfid relay! new swingarm for 3.5 & 5" rims, 170 rear, 120 front!
should be a beaut when its done, hopefully before summer....

Will keep updated with progress as it happens[IMG][/IMG]

Covers cleaned us, and modified and drilled ready for powdercoat, and head bead blasted.

I honestly have no idea the original speedometer is long gon, and bores are original size and measure up well though, apart from relocating electrics to the starter motor space an battery to the breather space it's just getting started good overhaul with either uni filters or trumpets

I liked the speedo I used on the bmw café racer.
Uses a magnet sensor on front wheel.

Mine had a upgrade chip for doing some of the bmw speedo unit which included a gear change indicator.
You can see the gear indicator bottom middle of photo 2. I didn't bother putting the display up front but it was part of the conversion speedo kit.

Yeah I was lucky and unlucky. Unlucky the beemer speedo unit was also part of the electronics required for the bike to run and lucky that a guy on k100 forums was selling conversion units for $40.

Finally got started on more than the cosmetic stuff this weekend, engine is back together (photos to come) and swingarm is hacked up and tacked back together with enough room for the 170 rear!

will be adding a top hoop and some bracing during the week!
