Tools: Who knows about air tools? Rattle guns and such

So I was recently given an air compressor. it is a V Twin ! belt drive. has a tank and two outlets. Near brand new. Came with some hoses and the usual set of air duster and whatnot.

I am toying with the idea of a rattle gun.

The specs of the compressor are 155 l/minute FAD - will that power a (say) half inch drive rattle gun ("Air impact wrench").? I have seen a kit on tardme that gives me a rattle gun and three impact sockets.

Dunno, anybody got any advice for me.

I mean I would never have bought it, but who turns down free tools?

No problem with a rattle gun. May struggle with a nail gun after the first couple of shots.

Timely post. I've just taken one home from my old mans shed. Interesting unit - decent size engine and high flow considering the smaller capacity 'bottle'. Not surprising as he was a tool/machine junkie and never purchased crap. George Henry was his favorite shop.

I was in Bunnings the other day - they have a reasonable selection of air tools and a KingTony (I think) display set up where you can try some - even has a car wheel there to rattle the nuts with.

I can see me buying air tools I don't 'really' need ........ must check his shed - bound to be some in there already.

Ooooh good tip re the Bunnings one. theres a secondhand Snap on rattle gun on tard me (still $400+ though). My mate who left me his compressor (and waterblaster) when he emigrated didnt buy shit tools either usually.

I may go tubeless on the mountain bikes now I have a compressor....

Have a look for WR Twigg's outlets - the one near me has all the proper sockets. They're black and thicker walled than normal sockets. Good place for mechanic's tools too.

In ChCh the cheap air tool outlets are Bunnings, Supercheap and Tool King.
Don't get a 3/8 drive impact, 1/2in minimum. Buy a set of impact sockets and you'll never need any others.

Don't buy second hand. Apply air tool oil manually at the end of each use, just a couple of drops up the bum. Ingersoll-Rand, FTW!

the tools you buy will have a cfm for lpm rating.
150 lpm is only about 5 cfm (hurrah marketing) I would peg 8 as the minimum. in saying that, it will work *a bit* and if you have a large receiver that will help.
being single cylinder, it's not designed to run continuously, so no painting, grinding or sandblasting for you.

really, 5cfm is a toy.

BnT sell the Jonnesway brand. We use their compact 1/2 inch rattle guns commercially all day. The price is right & they seem to be handling the use ok.
