Unusual rattle at idle

So I just replaced the oil and filter on CBR 600f year 2000, I started the bike today and let it idle for about 10 mins and all of a sudden it started making a strange rattle/vibrating sound. It would happen for about 2 seconds every day 10 seconds.

I turned the bike off for about 5 minutes googling the problem, restarted to make a sound recording and rattle wasn't as consistent as before. It would happen if I revved to 3k then slowly released throttle, or opened throttle the smallest amount.

Could it be cam chain tensioner? All the videos I've watched seem to sound like cct rattle is constant and not every so often like mine?

Sounds like the CCT isn't keeping the cam chain snug. If it worries you, replace the CCT or talk your mechanic for expert advice. In some cases it's possible to click the CCT onto the next notch. Silly as it sounds, simply removing, cleaning and refitting can remedy sticky auto cam chain tensioners. The hard part is often just getting to them, but on the CBR it'll be right hand end of engine.

rattly honda = cct.

put a manual adjust on it.

What do you base this on? It was started cold and given time to warm up. Was also a rather brisk day here...

10 minutes is excessive. even for a honda.

the modern wisdom is to ride gently until it comes up to fangin' temp. for science.

What Akzle said. That's about six times this year I have agreed with his posts. Epic year.

Modern water cooled engines do not like idling for a long period of time, good practice is to fire em up, gear up (few minutes) then take it easy with the revs until they reach thrashing temperature. Which will also coincide with your tyres reaching sticky temperature.

Life is then good.

Apart from the plod.

Avoid ten minute idling and the plod.
