    Barbagallo (WA) closed to bikes

I see that Barbagallo has been closed to bikes indefinitely after another fatality there.
There's been an on line petition circulating for some considerable time trying to improve it for bikes but they've never had satisfaction.
It would appear to be another circuit where the barriers for the V8's have stuffed it for bikes - sound familiar ?

The New Zealand equivalent being Pukekoe, was not made less safe for bikes by the changes. Over the hill and the exit of turn 4 have always been zero run off zones.

I didn't consider that risk too great to race there, but some did.

The manhole cover on turn one at Puke turns my head inside out, but it's so far off line that if you're running it over you are already crashing.

Just been told by a Perth local that Motorcycling Australia passed the circuit as fit for purpose last year.
The car club circuit owners called for a report from I think the WA Commission for Sport - who in a non binding report said it wasn't safe.
So it appears the car club have closed it to bikes to avoid having to upgrade....
    Nice....

...a good mate of mine, from out your way Grumph, just had his passion reignited for our game, couldn't race again so has been having a cool time getting close to the sport by doing the flaggy thing at this place...he will be pissed off that it's over...he has told me that it was a dangerous place for motorcycles...

...hard bits in the wrong places would have to be the first place to look, I'd say...

Never been there, only seen it on TV. I'd think the first problem is the last corner - after the downhill straight.
There's a ripple strip on the outside which the cars go over - then do a swerve to avoid the wall at the end of the pits...
I've looked at that on TV and thought, yeah, wouldn't want to go over that on a bike....

Winton is exactly the same out of the last turn.

The safety aspect never bothered Rick Gill and the ilk back in the 80's when they charged around on RC30's etc
Brian Bernard never mentioned it either.
    Them were the days

This is worse and we run Nationals here.... heck, they have raced GP, WSBK and F1.... if you go back far enough. This is Mosport.... scariest track I have ever ridden.... the walls around Turn 1 and the start of Turn 2 just add to the scare factor.... Turns 1 - 5 are all blind.

OR this - another track where the national championship runs..... this track is pretty decent, except for the last turn .... look at the south side paddock. Track runs clockwise.

Not saying Barbagallo couldn't be safer, but it seems not too bad.
