Why bother for 10k? Should go 150 or true open and let local planners plan.

Highly likely it will exclude South Island roads as well due to their anal criteria.

I was wondering the other day - they have these zero speeding tolerance holiday weekends and the carnage continues.

Maybe they should try a no limit open road weekend and see what happens .......

    or just.... permanently.

infact one of the holiday weekends recently was the worst on record, before or since 0 tolerance. cops were very mum about that one.

    the agenda continues...

110 seems like pacification to me. If they change it they can spend the next 20 years saying, but we just changed it...

Or in the event they change it and keep very good accident records on those roads, and the rate increases (at 110) they will spend the next 10 years trying to reduce the limit to 90 ..... fuckers have a plan.

The real point of it is so they can change the rural limit to 80.

The talk of 110kmh is a red herring, I think the real story will be the lowering of speed limits on some of our favourite rides,
a bit like the mp"s getting a 2.5% payrise back dated to july that was announced the day of the US elections.

That's going to go down well in the SI - NOT. The long straight, well surfaced roads ChCh south are suitable for 110k limit - but won't get it cos no barriers.

When Helen's motorcade caused ructions speeding in Canterbury, it hardly raised an eyebrow here. The speeds achieved were quite safe on those roads.

You could ask for wire barriers down the middle of the roads...

Seriously, you're correct. The roads are suitable, but the standard of driving of many is not. And they are the ones who lower the bar by driving off the road in their cars...
