Mild off road for kids near Wellington

I’ve been in NZ for two years now and been enjoying adventure touring on my KTM 990 Adventure. My son (9-yrs old) has been asking me to get another motorbike for him (he used to have a CRF50) which I’m keen to do, but I am struggling to figure out where are opportunities to take him riding off road. He is not into motocross, but I’d like to take him out for some mild off-roading (e.g., open field, forest tracks). Where can I find opportunities for us to ride near Wellington that’s not too technical (no deep sand, no rocks)?

Are there any other forums that are better suited for off-road in NZ?

You could have a look at the Akatawera Forest Park starting from the Upper Hutt end .

Should be suitable, just look out for oncoming traffic on busy days.
