There have been significant improvements to the coast road in recent years anyway. I drove to Wgtn in the early am a few weeks back after not having been on the road for several years. I was impressed that from the Waimak bridge to Picton was 4 hours - 1/2 hr quicker than it used to be.
All that's been lacking was the budget to do more straightening. Might be there this time.

I've been a refugee in my own city since Thursday. Left home for work, haven't been allowed back in since. Not even for five mins to grab some personal stuff and clothing. If I meet the cunt that signed off on that cunting car park after the Seddon quakes, I'm gonna kick him in the fucking balls.

Feel your pain but alas from here it is difficult to understand what you are actually talking about?

Well, if you seen the news in the last week, you may've seen the parts of Courtenay Place here in Wellington are no go zones. My apartment happens to be one of those. Not because our building is unsafe...but because the car park belonging to Readings Picture Theatures is in *Imminent danger of collapse*. So now, Wellington City Council, have deemed it safe to walk withing 20 feet of said car parking building, yet won't let us back into our building to collect any personal belongings. So...I'm rather fucked off.

One of the perils of apartment living in a quake prone city...

Presumably your building is one of those next door to the carpark. Are you saying that the weaknesses should have been picked up after the last round of quakes ? We've seen here that subsidence takes time - and will go unnoticed till the next shake.

    Fuck Off!
Screw it more than it already is get fucked.

More economical & viable option would be to bring back the overnight ferry....wellington - chch.
Last thing they need to do is turn the coastal road into a express way...majority of accidents through there are already caused by drivers out driving their ability why give them reason to drive faster

Fully appreciate that mate. But our apartment is 100% ok after the shake. It's the cunting car park building that's the problem. And it was fucked (and closed for over a year) after the Seddon quakes. It's been repaired on the cheap, and is still fucked. It's even more fucked now. WCC needs to grow some fucking balls, and tear the cunt down asamutherfucking p.

As for not even allowing us five mins to get back into our place to grab personal items...that sucks balls too. That's not an evacuation...it's eviction.

Happened in Christchurch too, the grand chancellor hotel had entire blocks cordoned off because it got a lean on after the feb quake, apparently it was fine after september....

Someone I work with had a house in sumner that was undamaged, but ended up behind the container wall that was put up due to the rock fall risk. They weren't allowed back in to get stuff from the house, house was undamaged so no insurance and it was their problem to pay for somewhere else to live, when they were finally allowed back they found that the containers hadn't stopped other people getting in and cleaning the place out.

Heard first hand stories of people bribing engineers to get into their inner city apartments here in ChCh after the '11 earthquake. One person I know very well paid an engineer $1000 to get into their place for 10 minutes.

Hmmm - Seems officials are more obstructive and dangerous than the earthquakes! (why am I not surprised - I am currently embroiled with the local council)

You want to ask the mayor of Hurunui District about dealing with officials...

    and the result...

... hope it's not the Hurunui council you're "having discussions with"...

There's a point which is not being reported yet but which should concern people very much...In the last year or so, the excess for EQC claims has gone from 1% - which we paid post the ChCh quakes and repairs - to a flat $5000.

So, all the smallish damage will almost cetainly be at owners expense.

We were watching the red stickering of houses in Kaikoura on TV and wondering about them too - How many have adequate insurance now.
All will have had their premiums rise post ChCh but given it's a low income area and house values have traditionlly been low too, how many will have enough insurance for a full rebuild ? I'd pick a rebuild there will cost more than a similar one out on the plains.

Grab a high-vis vest rock in first thing 9am tomorrow morning and say you're there to urgently check a report of falling debris and you need to get inside the building.

Find a dozen people or so that can "distract" the protector of the door, and go get your stuff. After all, you won't be breaking the law. More than happy to pop into Welly
