Question SOA style DOT helmets legal in NZ?

    Hi All,

Firstly, I am well aware of what a proper, quality helmet looks like, and I am also aware that the helmet below offers bugger-all real protection, so please spare me the safety lecture

In regards to helmet safety standards, the NZTA website says:

"Helmets complying with FMVSS 218 will be marked with the letters 'DOT'. This standard is only acceptable for motorcycle helmets that have been manufactured and purchased in the United States."

So that leads me to assume that this should be legal:

    http://www.bikerhelmets.com/worlds-s...black-no-peak/

But, due to it's tiny size, I can imagine getting some flack from the boys in blue So, does anyone have any experience with these helmets, or anything similar? Are they completely legal here?

    Cheers

    tiggles

That's fair. And accurate. And expected.

    But still... any ideas?

Bugger. I guess I did. Thanks for pointing that out!

Are there any similar slim, light weight helmets available in NZ? I'm not interested in the "look", I just want something as close to helmetless as possible for bombing around locally.

Locally available alternative, or closest to what you put up at least.

Yep they seem like a great idea. This thread seems to agree, http://www.600rr.net/vb/15-general-d...open-face.html

I'm pretty sure Rolling Thunder stock legal helmets of that style. I've seen plenty of the HD lads wearing them locally and I remember seeing them on someones shelf.

Side note - I'm pretty sure the only colour helmet that shop stocks is .... black

I found one of those old NZ made cheapy open face helmets in a shed.
I can 't remember the make but it was pre "pro"
Its shaped like a Bell even down to the rivots.
