Hello all!
Yet again, my good friends the parking enforcers after 3 months of no issue, gave me a $40 parking fine. Been parking on the same spot for 4 months now and for some odd reason out of all the days I have been parking there, they gave me a fine. When checking the infringement for the reason of the violation... It says that I have parked in a paid parking spot. But that is a bit weird... I don't see my bike occupying a car spot space... At best, I park my bike so that cars can easily leave and park... So i decided to give them a call, to get a better understanding... I asked them, if I did purchase a parking ticket to park at that spot (which in this case I may or may not have) what would stop someone from taking that off my bike or even securing that parking ticket on my bike or worse, the parking warden would take it off my bike and still issue the fine. However the grunt from auckland transport couldn't give me an answer and told me the same thing over and over again " Put a band around your bike with the parking ticket"... I wanted to speak to a manager since I wanted to avoid getting fines in the future. When asking the manager the exact same question about how would I secure the parking ticket on my bike, she couldn't give me a clear answer and repeated the same answer as the stupid grunt. The manager replied saying "Even if you did buy the parking ticket, it isn't our problem if the ticket get stolen". I even went as far as to ask her what if your parking wardens took the ticket off the bike and gave me a fine. She couldn't answer me.... She told me that the best thing to do is the take a photo of the parking ticket and when you do get a fine, just submit the evidence to get that ticket remove. So I asked her, so you want me to do that everyday? Get a fine everyday and submit it to auckland transport everyday? and she couldn't reply. In the end of the day the manager was just as useless as the grunt who advice me to either superglue the parking ticket to the bike or take public transport to work.
My question is I park on the main street all day everyday, and I have no issue with parking nor fines. So why today, would I receive a parking fine? And I thought motorist doesn't have to pay for parking? Wouldn't it be easier to have a system, when you park your vehicle and pay for the ticket, you can add your number plate onto the ticket so that it would make people avoid stealing the ticket since it would be useless on another vehicle. This would accommodate for all type of vehicle parking on a "Pay parking spot". That system is currently being used in AUT manukau, where students would need to enter their number plates and choose the time to park in AUT. Or alternative, add more spots in auckland city for more ROOM for parking motorcycle as there is an increase in motorist in auckland.
