    Actually I lied earlier, I have put the lid on the rack before, several times, but never on the seat...and the CB had a helmet hook. All three occasions were short photo stops.

    That KBC helmet on the CB did end up on the ground some time later so I gave it to local Volly Fire Brigade for their accident practice.
    NB: It wasn't me that dropped it.

    I hang it by its strap from the mirror.

    IF I leave it on the bike.

    Doubt it. Ive worked in a polystyrene injection moulding factory - the polystyrene in helmets is pretty high density, enough that the helmet's own weight won't be enough to do anything to the polystyrene.

    I place mine in the table Im sitting at when I get off the bike. Seen too many fall from bikes, and I cant afford to buy a new helmet every few months!!
