Just learning to ride, new to it all!

Hello, I'm new to biking. Very new. I've been practicing on a quiet road near my home in the countryside with full protection gear, and a GN125H. I've yet to go for my license, waiting for them to open back up later in January.

I have a KTM DUKE 200 (2016) on order for when I do get my license. Until then I'm being trained by my Dad who's a certified trainer, and licensor for bikers in the ProRider program. So I feel I'm a bit lucky in that sense, right from the get go I'm being taught everything step-by-step.

Just got counter steering practice in today and it's been a blast.

Anywho, sorry for the long intro. Nice to meet you all and I hope I'll be apart of a group of safe riders in the Auckland area soon!

I'm also new to riding (On the road, at least) and have a Duke 200.
I've ridden 450 motocross bikes and I'm a Speedway Sidecar swinger so I'm not exactly new to motorbikes in general but I am super impressed with the little Duke! I can definitely see myself progressing onto the 690 at some stage.
My only gripe with the Duke 200 is the hard seat and the vibrations, being single cylinder, it can be a bit rough when riding for 2+ hours. I've found a quick 2 minute break every hour or so sorts the issue
Oh and the lack of storage space which I can't really complain about considering I bought it knowing it had none.

I hope you enjoy your Duke as much as I do, it's a great wee bike. What do you intend on using it for?

10 - 20 minute commute to work mainly. Weekend trips with friends / family.

Ride your own ride and good luck with your licence test, it should be a breeze

It's great for that. I have no issues on the open road, although I am looking at getting a bigger wind screen for those longer trips as sitting on 100kmh with no windshield for 3 hours can take a toll on the upper body. I'd recommend the same if you're looking to do similar things

    Hi

There are some awesome roads down in Hamilton, towards Raglan and Hwy 22. If you heading down this way hit us up. Getting more seat time helps as you would know already. Welcome to the community and ride safe.

Cool story bro, I liked the part about how your dad was a certified licensor for bikers and yet you're riding around without a licence.
