KTM Duke 200 - Name this part

Hi guys, long time lurker but first time making a thread.
I'm currently sporting a broken wrist at the moment and unable to ride so today I decided to work on my bike and put on a new set of levers.
Unfortunately I managed to snap a small part of the electronics, it is a little box that sits underneath the cluster of electronics on the clutch side of the handle bars.
It has a small white piece of plastic that sits in a groove of the clutch lever and moves back and forth with the clutch.
I've started the bike and put it into gear and it doesn't seem to affect anything but I'd really like to know what it does and if I need to replace it.
I feel like it's what stops the bike from being started whilst ingear or with the clutch out but I'm not sure

Here is a pic of said piece, thanks for your help.

Thats exactly what it is. Took me a while to make sence of your picture till my son came home with his and i realised its missing the rubber boot thats normally there. Given eldctrickey doesnt like water youll need to somehow protect it if you aint gonna replace.
