Yup. But trying to accommodate every day sleeper is often impractical.

A big part of my work is building compliance inspections. Apartment blocks are a nightmare. Morning sleepers, afternoon sleepers, evening sleepers, night sleepers. All demand that we accommodate their needs.

You lot can be our neighbours... lawns - well I've seen bigger lounge/family rooms - are mowed during the week and with an elderly Morrison electric mower, that sounds like an overgrown vacuum...

And before our neighbours left for Seattle, didn't mow when they were home cause they a new wee one...

All a hangover from my youth - older sisters were nurses and so were the neighbour's girls, so everyone checked if any were sleeping before doing lawns...

Know how you feel, finished my shift driving a straddle at the port and home and in bed at 0800 this morning... the wanker next door started his lawnmower up at about 8.20 just as I had nodded off, finished his lawns and then the chainsaw starts up.

No complaints as it's a Saturday morning but I must remember to put earplugs in next time ...

Agreed. There comes a point where it's impossible.

In the first instance I assume everybody within earshot has a roughly "normal" sleep pattern and expect anyone doesn't to have a quiet word if I regularly disturb them. I'm then in a position to decide if it's possible to accommodate. Can't do that if I don't know.

I just remembered the last few months we were in Switzerland. Across the road from us was an abandoned factory; built in the era when every building had, by law, to have a bomb shelter in the basement - walls up to around a meter thick. Just before we left ii was being demolished to make way for a new apartment building. From 07:00 six days a week (thank fuck for Sundays) a large tractor born jack hammer was laying into it. Took a whole month to demolish half of one wall.
