...answer to query...yes it happens and they won't alter a licence to fix the problem, either...

Besides you had a learners at 17

    Now you are 42

Presumably not riding between as you imply?

So may just be a good idea to learn again.

Or fuck it - buy a Big Block HD and use my ACC contributions.

A semi retired guy, a 'gofer' at a local car dealer's, I used to see though work a few years ago had a big block Harley. He was telling me that he was stopped one day and the cop asked for his licence. After looking at the licence the cop advised him there was no motorcycle class. The Harley rider protested that he'd had a bike licence since the early '60s.

His motorcyce licence had been dropped during one of the changes: either the change to a "paper" licence, or to the photo licence, and he hadn't noticed. He was told he had no option but to go through the full rigmarole to get a new licence.

I didn't see him again so don't know what he decided, but it'd be a shame if he sold his Harley because he couldn't be bothered riding a 250 for however long.

Yep, happened to my brother in one of the changes of licence. He was told it had never existed as far as nzta were concerned, but fortunately managed to dig one of his old licences out of the bottom of a drawer so after much arguing got it reinstated.

    licence - /ˈlʌɪs(ə)ns/

    1. a permit from an authority to own or use something, do a
particular thing, or carry on a trade.
    2. freedom to behave as one wishes, especially in a way which
results in excessive or unacceptable behaviour.

    Summarising the issue.

Spend years arguing about your licence and not riding.

Ride without a licence, and spend your time worrying about being caught, and not having insurance. At least that'll make you use your mirrors, being paranoid about being followed by cops.

Or just bite the bullet, start again, and enjoy riding.

Doesn't seem like a tough choice. Especially now that LAMS bikes mean you can ride bigger bikes.

I only ever met one person who admitted to having gained a Class 6 without having done any testing at all. It arrived when his plastic card was sent out. It arrived with a Class 6 he had never applied for, or had been tested for.

Admin errors happen. Sounds like the OP was a victim of one.

...I have mentioned this in another similar thread on here...my mates bike licence disappeared but he is now licenced to drive any self laying tracked vehicle, which he will never do...apparently now that it is on there it is his prerogative to drive a dozer or tracked vehicle, 'cos he has the licence...fucking wankest bullshit I have heard...he spent two years on a Scorpio, just 'cos he had to...fuckwit bureaucratic shit...
