This is gav24 on the WAR adventure ride. Note the petrol can on the back.
She bottomed out alright, and I think he smacked his chin on the bars. There's a reason the Crusty's don't ride DR650's.

It's a fucking great photo. I can attest to the commitment of the rider to perform such a landing with aplomb.

Thanks crasher. Madness was arriving late in the arvo at the Owhango pub then with reducing light and drizzle thinking we could get the 42nd done before dark. With no wrong turns or injuries we made it out as the sun went down. 1/2 an hour later we would have been struggling. I guess the worst case scenario was camping in there overnight.
Big props to the Owhango pub though. Not only great food and other stuff but a garage to park 4 bikes overnight.
Funny - the rider who left his boots in the pub near the log fire to dry. The next morning he discovered the pub closed and looked... as you'd expect and was informed the owner turns up around midday and no one scares call him to turn up early.
A #$%^ great ride from Auckland through back roads down the west coast and back. It's a pity that more gravel is getting eaten up by tarseal.
Lesson learnt - The DR250 may not be the best road trip bike but boy is it work it in the back of beyond over the bigger adventure bikes.
We did the 42nd the wrong way round so we had to ride up the wall. One of the guys popped his chain half way up. Gee that bike made a huge bang as it hit the rocks.
The 42nd traverse is a great place to go play. (As well as Fishers and the tunnels and roads north east of New Plymouth.
