Undo some bolts and inspect the bearings of the linkage and sw. Replace any pitted or mullered parts with a kit (motoxparts.co.nz for example). Forget for another decade (unless you do a lot of river crossings).
Plain bearings of the 70s suited blowing them through with grease. If you have good seals then roller bearings will give superior action and stay sealed. Imagine what happens to seals if you were to pump them with a grease gun.

Sorry, no nipples on the SM. Strip linkage out, regrease, strip swing arm out, regrease. Easy. I do mine every year. Top Tip, to get your torque wrench into the link to frame mounting nut/bolt, first remove the lower chain roller.
