    Where to get basic parts

Hi group. I am rebuilding a 1980 Yamaha rd350 lc and have so far relied on getting parts overseas. However I feel there must be suppliers of the disposable things like clutch and throttle cables for old bikes here in nz. I am after pattern parts not expensive originals. Who do people use for these sorts of spares for older bikes?

Try your local Yamaha dealer for cables etc some of the pricing is pretty good for oem parts and only use oem crank seals, head gaskets and air filter.

I just put a new clutch cable on my old 76 honda. I was going to get a cable made up by a brake & clutch company, I think there's one in Hamilton and another in Wellington that make them up.
But when I checked the price for oem it was only 60 bucks delivered!
    No contest.
So like Intruder said, check the oem first

An aftermarket clutch cable is readily available through one of the New Zealand wholesalers and any bike shop should be able to get you one, but since the throttle cable splits to operate both carbs you're likely to be restricted to sourcing an OEM one.

Failing that, as has been said, if you have the originals there are a number of places that could custom make them for you.
