    Standing on Concrete floors

I've spent a lot of time lately in the shed working on my Norton ( takes about 5 times as long as a BMW).

I suspect I'm getting fatigue from A: working in imperial measurements and B: standing for hours on end on concrete.

are the $30 mats at Bunnings the answer?

I believe the solution is to get a more reliable bike that doesn't require you to spend so much time in the garage working on it..

    I heard slippers help.
Or you could just sell the Norton & go back into the house for winter.

Maybe. I didn't notice any spectacular improvement, so I suspect the problem is what her indoors said: too old and fat.

Oh, also all those wee nipples fall off in fairly short order. Although that may have been the oil. Which, Norton...

    On the mat, y'unnerstand.

Good shoes make a massive difference. Used to get serious back pain working retail in cheapo shoes, then got some decent ones and no issues since.

I also quit retail though, and that helped more. So uhhh, new shoes, or new lifestyle with less concrete floors involved!
    Yeah, nah.

(insert joke about unreliable bikes here)

Yup, that'll help. Cold concrete is the worst, put some extra insoles in your boots to. I have a hunk of carpet with underlay that I kept when we recarpeted. Big enough to roll the bike onto and then I can stand, kneel or lie on it as required (not so much for the Honda, but for a demanding Italian...)
'Course carpet might not work for a bike that leaks too much oil....

Any lumps of rubber mat helps.
Conveyor belt cut to size is good. Or carpet.
    Or some decent boots.

Or a jap bike that doesn't need working on.

    +1
Years of working in concrete floored workshops & in factories I soon learnt not to skimp on decent boots
Used to get a few sideways glances when I'd refuse the factory supplied or supplemented footware and blow on average $400 for boots but being a tall bugger and knowing what lower back & lumbar pain is all about and the fatigue it causes; having damn good boots are a must!

    thanks for the comments.

I have a couple of reliable bikes but enjoy working on older ones, keeps my hand in being an office boy.

I think I'll get some mats as got an engine to pull down on a 74 BMW.

    What Norton?, 72' Combat

that mat the missus bought that ya don't like will work, i use all sorts of stuff at work including a peice of carpet and that seems to work as good as other stuff, just gives a bit more cushioning but more importantly is a good barrier from the cold floor

...old carpet is free, as is old underlay, the rubber shit or foam shit are great under a bit of carpet...my bits are 6 to 800 mm x a couple of meters and get chucked out when they have to much shit spilled on them...I wont/cant stand on a concrete floor for more than a few moments before I get fucked off with dead feet...

2/3 of the garage has carpet and underlay in it, fuck working on a concrete floor for any length of time out there with out it, I do enough of that at work

Check out what the check-out chicks at supermarkets stand on. Designed for the purpose. We got some for our receptionists when I worked at a hotel and it made a big difference.
