    Kangaroo surprises sign maker

I know I said I'd cut back on the "animal hits bike" tales, but this one has a certain irony...

John Fleming - an Australian who works for a company that makes road signs warning motorists of kangaroos has been involved in a motorbike accident - with a kangaroo.

"I was riding my motorbike with my mate when the kangaroo jumped straight into it," said Fleming. "Of course I've got a bit of flak from my mates calling me Skippy, and the guys from work sent me a get well card that's a warning sign for a kangaroo."

Australia's population of kangaroos is conservatively estimated at more than 57 million and pose the biggest animal risk to motorists, accounting for more than 70 percent of animal related accidents in 2004.

If youre in the OZ and encounter a roo on or crossing the road aim at its tail, they tend to jump forwards and you should miss it. Worked for me coming off Mt Nebo at 160Kph

Another one to add to the list!

I had to do some research into avoiding objects - both animate and inanimate. All sounds a little obvious... but it actually got me out of trouble once when a squirrel ran out in front. I remembered my own work and went straight ahead (braking of course), as the rodent (which they are) will veer first then go to ground.

    So, here are links to:

Hmmmm - adults -" Solution: aim for the front and swear at them as you head past! "
I tried that - then fell off coz I was too busy swearing at them and not concentrating on getting a new bike, with new, teflon tyres, around the silly bitch! (it was at a controlled intersection )

Kangaroo: The worlds only legally edible fauna emblem. Tastes good too. Very lean and tasty.

The roo's are catching on at Mt Panorama though. The one sightseeing at the cutting during practice managed to miss three or four cars.
