...wow... they look in good nick...no idea on value though... very close to home for me...I bet Grumph was at all of those meetings...
Not at the motocross...
Very specialised and localised collectors area. There are (or were) two major collectors of Canterbury based memorabilia. Rex Russell had his dad and uncle's collection of prewar speedway programmes - and added a lot to it. The late Ian Ward had most of the GP, Wigram and Halswell 100 stuff, don't know where it is now, hopefully given to the museum.
Yeah the circuit was Sparks Rd, Quarry Rd, Hoon Hay Rd, Hendersons Rd, & back on to Sparks. In the 56 programme it says the circuit was 5miles half shingle & half tar.
That year Rod Coleman won in 95mins 43secs followed by Mick Holland 10secs back, then Jim Swarbrick and further back W Collett, J Anderson, Tommy McLeary & Noel McCutcheon.
Knew it'd be pretty specialised area of interest. I've got a fair bit of stuff form Cust as well including a lot of photos....looks like most were taken with a box brownie
I have posted up the odd photo in threads in previous years but have literally boxes full of photos

This thread had pics from Cust, Beach racing at New Brighton, MX from Stuart's gully, Waimate road racing etc plus general pics form the period. Kickaha posted some of his in amongst it too
And this post here with some pics from Tram Rd & Cust, and the oldman on the beach at Brighton

Thanks for the links. They predate my joining here so I'd not seen them. A couple of the post race group at Brighton look familiar - but a lot younger than when I first met them, lol.
I'd mentioned the EMC Puch in ESE thread i think - it was loud enough to be heard from one end of the road closure to the other. The owner and importer was Russell Gillard's uncle. Russ is still around and will be remembered by many of the ChCh 60's and 70's era guys. The old man and i went to that record attempt meeting. The weather wasn't too good and at that period race bikes were hard to get bits for. When you see that the McCleary's didn't get the records they were after you know it was a bad day. Old Tom would have organised it to get another record or two in the family books.
The post race at Brighton is the oldman on the bike & family and friends.....he gave the McClearys & Jim Swarbrick a lesson that day
The EMC, that was Kevin Gillard if I remember right. Dad did the tram Rd run on one of his T100s did 107 odd mph they ran it in around the top end of Waimari Rd (him & Evan Norris) and then when they took it out to Tram Rd my aunt riding a D1 Bantam towed the oldman whilst he held on to the carrier frame of the bantam
But those pics are only a small sample of what I've got
