    Lewis Pass in late June

Hi. Im riding from Christchurch to Picton next weekend to bring the bike up to Wellington where I now live. Has anyone done this trip very recently or at this time of year. Im thinking its going to be hellish cold and slow. Any suggestions and road reports? Thanks in advance.

I did it a couple of months ago and was prepared for the worst... but it wasn't too bad at all. My truckie mate in Christchurch reckoned it was awful but when I rode it I thought it was pretty much like any North Island road... and even better in places

be prepared for suicidal car drivers passing on blind corners!
the lowered speed limits seem to have done something to their brains as they have lost all patience
and they will pass in the most stupid places. the heavier traffic flow means your time schedule will need
looking at. more cops on the roads around the 80km zones.

Or go over Arthus Pass to Greymouth, up to Murchison and then instead of going up Wairau valley (80 KM/Hr, no passing and cops everywhere) turn up to Nelson then go round Queen Charlotte sound. Much more entertaining.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

On the "New" state highway one ... THIS is on a good day. The weather is the least of your issues.
