    Darwin Award nominee

OK, I know we have a firearms thread but this is deserving of a wider audience. For those who may not know, the 50AE is one of the most powerful handgun cartridges, bigger even than Dirty Harry's 44 Magnum. In the photo it is the one on the left. For comparison the 9mm as used by our police is second from the right, and this instance size definitely does matter.

That anyone would expect one volume of Encyclopaedia Brittanica to stop that from a foot away is beyond comprehension. He won't do that again.

Wow. No testing first obviously... Did their research on the net I suppose, or perhaps like cassina: 'I heard from someone who told me...'

From what I read they did test. He had some book from a previous shot. There was no detail though on the circumstances (range etc.).

(I see the muslim travel ban saved him from gun violence.)

    Point of Order Mr Chairman.

I suggest that the deceased is inelligable for a Darwin Award. His girlfrend is already pregnant which means that he has already polluted the gene pool.

Quite possibly - I have a feeling they may have sprayed the gun bore with CRC first - that stuff fixed totally fucked engines apparently thus could conceivably make bullets go faster.

He had multiple guns apparently, he might have tested with something less powerful? I'm reasonably confident that the full Encyclopaedia Brittanica would stop most bullets but one volume is a bit hopeful.

That pregnancy is their second, the first child got to witness proceedings, as did their neighbours. You'da thunk somebody would have shouted "stop!" when they saw the Desert Eagle, that's a zombie apocalypse class pistol - and looks it. Anyhoo, he should still quallify for a Darwin because at the relatively young age of the couple there could have been more kids to come.

Another report said that a "thick encyclopedia" was used.

I was really hoping for a bible to have been the book of choice in this instance.
