    Greetings

    Hi All.
Joined hoping to pick up some hints and tips as well as other gems of information about riding around NZ.
I ride a 2003 BMW 650 Dakar, mostly to somewhere.... then back again.
Anything with more than one cylinder is just a waste of moving parts.

Sometimes when I rode there and back, it could easily take a week.

    Easily a week. Plus repairs.

    Good to have spare cylinders...
High miles, engine knock, rusty chrome, worn pegs...
    Brakes as new

Welcome to KB, I see you've already had the traditional 'welcome'

Places to get out and play (tarmac only sorry)

The Wairarapa, anywhere east of SH2, anywhere from Waipukurau to Cape Palliser

    Taupo - Napier highway

    SH2, Napier to Gisborne

    The Coromandel

Wanganui to Fielding via that road starting up the hill, it's a bit north of SH3 and roughly parallel

Pahiatua Track, and the road going north starting about halfway along it

etc etc... something that's worked very well over the years is to break the maps out and go looking for a road I don't know yet, something with squiggly lines.
