Back in the day ...Maybe still now.?
in a lot/most maybe all European countries you were allowed to ride a moped/ 50cc bike at 16 years of age.

And go to car driving school at 18....

I know I can always improve on everything I do and know.
    Including (especially...) my riding/driving.

I have managed to stay accident free for over 40 now and counting....
And yes I did attend motorcycle courses....
    As recent as last year
And plan to do so again...
Coz I still stuff up at times...

The feeling of human frailty arising from riding a bike eould help people be more careful.

Unless they dress like Valentino, ride a Fireblade or a Hayabusa and win the Akaroa GP every weekend. Coz that'll make them feel invincible.
i'm sure i've been over this before.
everyone loses their license tomorow. then you go and get a learners, then you have 2 years to develop competency on a horse, scooter, motorbike, car, artic, tractor, forkhoist, locomotive, street luge and landyacht.
Then pass your full license by sitting test-modules on each of the above.
Most of the road rules will be scrapped, and the penalties for the remainder will range from public flogging to being shot in the face and/or having the vehicle you're in crushed on the spot (except horses, they get shot too)

not banned. minimised. through intelligent use of distribution networks.
ideally the only people using the roads will be professional or f*cking good drivers.

suvs might be banned. and women.

Interesting point. Rather than forcing people to ride on 2 wheels, make it an attractive option.

    Reducing the fees would help.

Emphasizing more effective utilization of road and parking spaces would help.

Promoting their fuel efficiency would be good too.

Anything really to persuade people to give it a go, and learn just how vulnerable we are in relation to cagers, buses and trucks.

Anyone who thinks that hasn't been tracking their fuel usage.

Or does not have a small, super-economical car to compare against. The spectrum of both bike's and car's fuel economies is so vast there is a large overlap, a fuel-smart choice in either category will do far more for the fuel bill than simple picky by the category. Still, if you enjoy driving/riding, and want the most fun per liter, the choice is bikes every time.

Bikes use more gas than they should and they pollute far worse than cars. I'm not talking about CO2, I'm talking about the stuff that can't ever be sequestered in any way and is directly linked with health issues and reducing the overall albedo of the planet. There isn't any way to attach the scrubbers, filters air injection systems and catalytic convertors to a bike that go on a very average car these days.

Most cars today have what my Dad would have thought of as small engines. 1400-2000cc normally aspirated or low pressure turbo-charged engines with a specific power output and torque figures that should shame American V8 manufacturers into giving up altogether, with a few notable exceptions. I sold the XJR1300 because I couldn't get my head around how thirsty it was. 21 litre tank and lucky to get 200kms out of it. Meanwhile my 1300cc car was doing 600km on 45 litres. I have a much more modern 1400cc DOHC VVT 16valve car now and it's roughly as economical as the old Kent-engined Ford Ka was. That's witchcraft in my book. Meanwhile the Versys gets about what the Fiat Punto does in terms of fuel economy. With less than half the engine capacity. The Punto isn't class leading economical either. An 1800cc Toyota Corolla has better fuel efficiency. But is fucking awful to drive in comparison.

So maybe Auckland should place a law against them so the latte sippers sipping on their cafe pavement chairs don't get 2nd hand exhaust?

It's a big leap from pointing out that bike emissions aren't as clean as motorcyclists think they are to implying that I live in Auckland.

    Just saying.

Still a shit of a thing to accuse any right-thinking person of.
