    New rider ...

    Hello all !
I am a rider from Nashville, TN. My first bike was a 2012 Yamaha XT250 which I still own. I bought a 2016 Harley Davidson Iron 883 this year. They are different styles of riding, but I love them both. I am soon going to be teaching my husband how to ride a motorcycle. Other than taking a MSF course, do you have any tips for teaching other how to ride?

    Any and all tips appreciated.

    Thanks

When I started (some time ago) we had to get our handling certificate before we were even allowed to sit the learner license.

This involved spending a couple of hours tootling around in a wide open carpark, on the smallest, lightest and most gutless bike I've ever ridden... 100cc commuter 4-stroke. I spent most of the first half hour stalling it and it was the best basic training ever. It started with the clutch vs throttle control and went from there. It wasn't a big deal if I got something wrong, it was easy to stop and try again, stalling the bike if I had to.

    The usual.....

    ride your own ride
    no pressure.
ride when you are in the right frame of mind, because you want to.
    your safety comes first.

take it easy. It’s not a race on the road

use the search function on here, it’s not easy to use but it works.

riding a motorbike isn’t for everyone.

as they develop riders opinions and bike styles change. Often what you lust after isn’t what you thought it to be.

empty car park, get the basic low speed skills, practise and ride when you feel it’s right.
