Buying Arai helmets MSRP - 10%

I'm trying to buy an Arai RX7V helmet.

The cheapest store that offer my size and ship to new zealand is sportbiketrackgear.com for $1050NZD

Local retailers are selling the helmet for full suggested retail price plus some more... (cheapest is $1200NZD)

And the shipping for stg.com(US) to NZ is $150NZD, so...

Am I fucked, or do I have some leverage in getting a cheaper price locally

You'll more than likely get nailed by customs when it arrives mate. You'll be charged GST on the combined price of the helmet and the postage. $1050.00 + $150 x 15% + = $1380.00. You may well incure a customs clearance fee just for good measure.

PM me what model Arai you want, and I'll see what I can do for you.

    Pete

Sounds like NZ is the place to buy. You'll get GST added as above if you import.

Have you tried asking for a 'best price' in NZ? They may drop $ if you are lucky. I have no idea of the markup on helmets.

Yeah. They like to make the money, not the retailer.

Just tell the local retailer what price you will end up paying including freight, gst, biosecurity etc and then see if they discount it for you. You may find that if you go back in a week they might have even increased their price.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

you're fucked if it doesn't fit properly, well not really, you just have to buy another one rather than have the dealer exchange it for you.
i'm a sparky, so many of my clients want to supply their own stuff, like a fan, i'm ok with that, but if you want to supply the fan how about 600mm duct tape, 6 meters of 1.omm strap cable, ducting, usually about half a length, a suitable switch of the correct brand, a larger flush box as it will probably have a timer, a timer, an external vent, a $90 holesaw to cut the external vent, a flashing if it's wall mounted, a few centimeters of silicone RTV, some screws, stainless for the exterior preferred, normal for inside, although stainless for bot is ok, unless it's heart timber inside, then often the stainless shear off as they have no real tensile strength, some insulation tape, lubricant for cables etc
thing is i supply the same fans as mitre ten 10% cheaper after all that.

    YES!

I imported an Arai a few years ago (becuase the fuckwits here didnt import it - who the fuck doesn't import a Freddie Spencer rep when there's a Freddie Spencer rep to be had?). Anyway what Pete described happened to me EXACTLY. I got done over and consequently now own the most expensive Arai IN THE WORLD.

Worth it: did I mention its a Freddie Spencer rep?
