Moving to AUS - ship bike or not?

    Hi all!

In April '18 i will be moving to Melbourne permanently.

Has anyone on here shipped their bike to Australia from Auckland, NZ and wants to share their experience? I'm just weighing up my options to determine whether its worth it.

The bike is a 2017 Victory High Ball with barely 2k on the clock which i want to bring with me. I got it brand new and its my pride&joy.

I started looking into shipping costs by emailing a few freight forwarders and researching Australian duty costs etc.

Sea Freight appears to be about $2k (this seems like a rip off?). Can it be done cheaper?

GST(10%) and Duty(5%) on the bikes market value of lets say $15k add another $2,250. Misc. costs are another $250 so all up im looking at approx $4.5k which seems ridiculous. Have I calculated everything correct?

Resale values of Victory have plummeted. If i sell it in NZ i'll be lucky to get $16k so i've lost $6k there. Its a lose-lose situation me thinks.

How long have you owned the bike? if its less than 12 months when you leave, then you are likely going to be screwed as they probably won't give you an import permit.
    Have a read here:
    https://tauruslogistics.co.nz/motorc...ping/australia

$2k does seem a bit high.... I just brought my bike over from Aus to NZ as part of my household effects and it only cost me $500 for Freight + $250 MPI/IVS/Customs fees for the bike, but will probably cost a bit more if you're not sending other stuff. (Hasn't been registered here yet so probably an extra $700 for compliance and rego, but I didn't have to worry about GST)

Try getting a quote with https://tauruslogistics.co.nz/
I used them to bring my Car from Germany -> NZ and I also got a quote from them for AUS -> NZ for the same car + my bike (it just ended up been cheaper to put them both in the container with household effects), the quote came to a total of $3400 for both, most of that been the car.

The main costs were the freight
    International Freight
    - Bike $525
    - Car $1200

The rest was transportation costs to and from port, and customs fees on both AU and NZ side.

FYI Oz biosecurity will try and screw you, as they are under funded and one way to solve that is to charge every sucker regardless of condition the cleaning fees... so expect 3-400 for that...

Make sure its bone stock no aftermarket anything till you get it on the road over there...so if you've got loud pipes now better hope you still have the originals.

huge range of bikes available in aussie if you will lose 6 k to sell it then spending 4k to get it across there is better. You may do better if you can wait for the bike to come across in a container with other stuff.I think there is a guy who specialises in bikes NZ-Au

Could someone point me to the person that does shipping NZ- Aus perhaps.

By the time I move i will have owned it 12 months so that's not an issue. Bike is factory stock and Victory have confirmed that both Aus and NZ models are identical.

Taurus are the ones that provided the $2k sea freight quote.
