I'd say an insurance company would have an "out" because the chain constitutes a "pre existing condition". Chain condition/safety could mean the bike is not up to warrantable standard to be on the road.

Firstly, there is no such thing as a "pre-existing condition" in a motor vehicle policy, secondly there is no exclusion for a claim caused by a mechanical fault of this nature, thirdly, if the bike was stationary it is the other drivers responsibility to be able to stop in "half the clear distance".

However don't let that stop you from proffering opinions on stuff you obviously know little or nothing about (it is KBer after all).
