    Pod filters

What’s people’s general views on pod filters. Some people seem to think they’re not good as they disrupt the air flow too much and are more trouble than thryre worth given the importance of good air supply, any thoughts ?

Hot shit in the 70's/early 80's. But back then you could chuck on a 4-1 pipe, pod filters and bigger carb jets and genuinely gain a easy 10hp out of your 100hp bike.

    Times have changed.

What's the bike? If it's a GN250 you could punch some holes in a tin can with a large nail, wrap it in one of mums pantyhose and use that as a filter without fucking up too much!

Pod filters have been good to me on my bike but your mileage may vary.

If they flow more air than the stock airbox, and it's a carburetted bike, then you will have to tune and re-jet the carbs or else risk engine damage from running too lean at high throttle. I'm not sure what the story would be with an injected engine using an ECU.

+1 on use... which bike are you thinking about podding?

Sorry should've said, It's an old dunger of a GN250 that I've been tweaking (so far the usual easy hits, lights, indicators, seat, muffler). Its starting to look pretty tidy (to me anyway but beauty eye of beholder and all that) and was contemplating cleaning out the triangle under the seat and putting a pod filter and moving the battery to give it a different look (just don't talk to me about over-capitalization... )

It will take some skill and luck to re-jet it. Most people just change the mainjet for something wildly bigger and then suffer the dreadful running.
If you want goodly increase in performance then go ahead but keep the std bits.
When you put them back on you will get the goodly increase in performance.
Don't you look at my accountant.

Meh - go for it. Have a look at these - I've always like them from a design point as they offer a fair volume of filtering material vs internal air space compared to some of the small bolt-on pods.
