eek Newbie from across the ditch!

    Hi folks!

So my name is David, I've been riding for around 10 years and come from a family who all rides too. I live in Tassie (NZ squashed into one, tiny island) but I have a partner who lives in Golden Bay so over the next couple of years I'm looking to sell a heap of stuff, finish and sell the house, and then make the move to NZ, most likely settling somewhere around CHCH, depending on work and house prices etc etc.

My first bike was a 2007 Kawasaki GPX250, when I got off my restricted licences I bought a 2006 R6.. Which was bonkers, to the point there it out-bonkers'd my licence (48kmp/h over the limit). I scored a $3k fine and a 9 month cancellation of my licence so the R6 got sold to pay for all that and I bought a repairable writeoff 2010 Hyosung GT650R to keep me busy while I couldn't ride.. It was a mistake.. BUT that's long gone now and blowing up for someone else, taking their money and time, and I've FINALLY got my dream bike, which I've wanted since seeing it's first iteration back in 1994.

She's a 2000 Ducati 996S (MY01) and my absolute pride and joy. I've had her for about 2 and a half years now and don't get to use her nearly as much as I'd like but we will never part.. She's going to be freighted over when I make the move, whatever it takes, that's a given!

My daily ride from the suburbs into the city where I work is a 2008 Yamaha CygnusX scooter.. With a couple of differences.. It's had the airbox ripped off it and a race airfilter and a full "termignoni" race exhaust system bolted on. It's possibly the most fun I've ever had on a bike in traffic, just hooning about on this little, shouty scooter! I've even done a couple of trackdays on it, just for a laugh and scalped a few try hard boy-racers... They weren't impressed but everybody else was! It's done up as a Rossi Ducati replica.. Before that it was a Fiat Yamaha replica (and before that, just boring black) but all the decals are quite faded now and a life of hooning, tracking, and paddock bashing (she's versatile, I'll give her that) I'm currently in the process of her next incarnation (Britten V1000). This is another bike with some pretty strong sentimental value which is going to be moving with me, whatever it takes.

I've also got a pair of 1988 Honda CBR250R MC19 race bikes. They're alright but very temperamental and currently in pieces in the garage, next to my housemates GPX250 and the blown up pocket bikes. As much as I'd love to bring these with me, I'm just going to sell them and put the cash towards the move and buy a track bike when I get over.. I'm thinking of getting into the BEARS scene once I'm over in the correct country, and maybe some street races, too.

Whilst the big move may well take a long time to organise and eventuate (a life's worth of loose ends and crap I need to tie up), I can't wait! And I can't wait to finally have my own bike over in NZ! I've been around the South Island a couple of times now in borrowed cars.. Something tells me Takaka Hill, the road from Nelson down to Murch' and Buller Gorge would be a bit better on the 996 than they are in an old, automatic, Nissan Maxima!

I'll be stalking the forums while I get ready, looking for hints, tricks, advice, good places, bad places, etc, etc and who knows, I might even get to meet some of you in person in the future!

    CHEERS GUYS!

Thanks dude! Yeah, when I bought the Ducati, I sent the VIN and Engine numbers off to the factory in Bologna to get the spec it was when it rolled off the production line and I'm slowly getting it back to it's original spec. It was actually built as a monoposto and I've got the correct single seat fairing on it now, I just have to find the correct monoposto subframe (in the right colour) now and she'll be purrrfect!
