Stewart Island Ferry - With a Motorsickle

    Hey guys,

I'm planning my next big trip for mid Feb: Auckland to Bluff

I've got the idea of taking the ferry over to Stewart island, I've searched online and can't find anything about taking a motorcycle (or any vehicle) on the ferry.

Has anybody taken their bike over?

If so, how much? Things to see? etc

    Cheers

    STEVEN

No vehicle access on the ferry.
and as above, no need, you can walk everywhere you need to.

There are rental cars and scooters there if you're feeling lazy.

Also, just go and chat nicely to the ferry operators. They'll lock your bike in one of their sheds.

I took mine over early to mid nineties but it was part of an organised rally and others have done the same, ring the ferry operators if they can't do it they may know of another boat that can

Yes there are, I did about 30kms on my bike in two days, although I did have to ride some bits twice to get that total

The ferry slings biggish lifts onboard. That's how they get their stuff over to the Island. The ferry crowd will let you know the answers to your question.

Then the same question to you remains...why?

Eight days there last time we went down and unless you are really slow, just about every bit of road was walked at least twice....
