Just arrived - Auckland parking question

    Hi all,

Just arrived from the States for my tour around NZ. I pick up my bike today. I will staying in Auckland for a few more days and I am wondering about parking options. The Auckland Transport web site says parking for motorcycles is free in their car parks. I called and the person I spoke to said no, bikes pay just like cars. The lot I had checked out, Victoria St, definitely had bike spots marked out, albeit rather small spaces. Can anyone clarify? I called them to ask what bikes should do to park, take a ticket, drive around the arm, or what?

Depends on the car park. Auckland transport carparks have free spots. Things like tournament parking, Wilson's parking and other private car parking firms will often not have parks available, or will charge you the same as a car.

What area of town are you parking in?

I am staying near Queen St in the CBD. The Victoria St car park is quite close by.

Aotea carpark, downtown carpark (customs St West) fanshawe St and Victoria St carparks are A.T. carparks and free parking for bikes. Check the opening and closing times though

Thanks. I am parked at Victoria St. Do I just drive around the gate arm to exit?

    Yes.

Victoria St is open 06.00 to 24.00 most days.

Bingo, just drive around the gates on exit. They have (I'm sure you've seen) specific bike entries, and have a good look at the barrier arms you'll see they are quite a bit shorter than the Wilson's ones

    Another question about storage

Hi all. I have another question. I am looking for a wee bit of storage for the next few months. I have a big duffle bag and a helmet bag that I used to lug my gear over from the States. Together they fold up pretty small, probably less than 10 litres, smaller than a helmet, but I can't afford the space to pack them on the bike. The thing is, I will need them to pack back up in for my trip back to the States in April. I would rather not throw them out and buy replacements for the trip back, so if I could figure out some way to store them near Auckland, that would be awesome. Any ideas?

Jafagsx250, that would be awesome! I will PM you my contact info. I will be leaving Auckland Wednesday morning, so if there is some time between now and then that I could get the bags to you that would be fabulous.

Jafa, thanks so much for your offer, but I have found an alternative that will be a bit easier. I booked an AirBnB room for my Auckland return and the host agreed to hold on to my bags until then. I very much appreciate your offer and if we should meet, beer is my shout.

No worries. Let me know when you are around and I will try and fit a ride in.
