Well they need to think up a new name. Moped is already taken by motor/pedal combo machines.

it's not a powered bicycle, it's a motorbike. Get over it.
Absolutely agree - the French made thousands of the things...

Unfortunately NZTA use "AB (power-assisted pedal cycle)" for what sidecar bob calls a "mo-ped" and the expression "moped" for what Crasher describes - under 50cc, under 50km/h under 2kw...

Like you sidecar bob I consider a 50cc twist-and-go a motorcycle and that you should have a motorcycle licence to ride it. As for the thinking behind the Yamaha Tricity being registered as a car... Makes one wonder if the whole registration/licencing of small powered two/three wheelers needs to be re-evaluated...

    3. You need a motorcycle license, having a drivers license only required is more friendly to the market.

If I could make it a moped, its a steal. If it is classed as a motorcycle more $$$$$

Read the "moped" section of this: Mopeds (classes LA and LB)

...I have a 60 Series Landcruiser...I'm fucked off with the costs involved in rego and shit...can I register it as a moped?...I can't seem to find the relevant clauses that would allow me to do this...

Only if you can add pedals to it to make it go faster...

Couldn't agree more. It's a fucking stupid name, and the cunting things should need reg wof checks.
