70kmh on pretty much every road in the country seems like an idea that isn't likely to find much support......

Yep, now they are really pushing into bubble wrap territory.
Might as well ban all cars and make drivers license illegal, because they cause people to drive, which is "lethal".
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
probably get a lot more falling asleep at the wheel crashes on those long straights
Well if NZ'ers weren't such shit drivers ideas like this wouldn't come up.
Taken from todays NZ Harold.

I drove on the 110 Kph section of the Waikato Expressway the other day.
Apparently it must have been some form of Miracle that I didn't spontaneously explode into a massive fireball....
In other news 70 Kph would be so unbearably tedious that I'd probably end up having an accident to relieve the boredom...
Physics; Thou art a cruel, heartless Bitch-of-a-Mistress
Heading down to Arrowtown a couple days before new years at Christmas towing a trailer loaded with camping gear (460 kms) my average speed would have been low. Probably half of that distance would have been at 80 due to the amount of traffic on the roads. And we witnessed some pretty stupid driving even at that speed, so I doubt lowering in in the proposed manner would have any change to the annual road toll.
The authorities obsession with speed is rather remarkable and in total ignorance of the shitty condition of a lot of our roads, or shitty drivers on the roads.
It was 80 on the open road when I started riding way back in 1980 (due to a global fuel crisis if I remember?) but the cops were good bastards and just gave you a warning most of the time if you were doing 100-110 instead of 80. I think they just enjoyed getting to stick the boot down on the old Holdens and flash the lights.
Also I am thinking that some of the issue may actually be the super safe (?) modern cars with all their luxury extras.
Any new car advert over the past few years mainly wank on about safety (number of air-bags) and fancy electronic extras, blue-tooth this and that, heated seats, park control, anti lock this and that, the vagina in a dashboard accessory - this type of thing. People have been conned into thinking that all these features make them immune to serious harm.
The the demise of the family sedan being replaced by the urban wanker truck has added to this feeling of road superiority. The urban 4WD driver around Christchurch and the South Islands open road is a self-centered fucktard of extreme proportion regardless of gender.
A piece of Brussell's Sprout being reported in our media... why? Answers below in publishable language...
I thought NZTA and MoT were already reviewing maximum road speeds for our roads.
I suspect that there is a huge element of truth in what you say...
though when a so-called motoring journalist writes like this - VW ute - you start to see why many 4x4 drivers are so "entitled" when driving... just watch a few in a supermarket carpark.
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.
On a semi-related note, I read a comment on one of the news articles saying police are not doing their job etc...
Since when did we solely depend our lives to NZ Police? Is it too hard to be responsible for our own lives?
Lately I see a lot of comments such as:
Government not giving enough benefits/ houses
Hungry kids at school
Poor road conditions and road deaths...
I mean, can't we even take care of ourselves? If times are tough you budget, set priorities and make necessary sacrifices. I do that, and we all go through tough times. If road is bad you drive to the condition. No full-time job and steady income? Find a temporary/ casual to mend, yet gaining experience for next better step. Whatever the situation is just get off the computer and do something! Unless you have no arms and legs, which seems like most NZ keyboard warriors are.
Has NZ become a spoon-fed society that can't do anything but to whine and cry like a 2yo baby when they can't get what they want for free?
Too much blame and less responsibility.
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
Yes we have. I think the first time I heard the term 'Nanny State' was under Helen Clark?
Add to the list dairy owners in Auckland wanting the Government to do something about the robberies they have been having. Now it's a sad thing being robbed for cigarettes at knife point but I fail to understand what the NZ Government is supposed to do? I know how about every pack of fags having a user coded small explosive inserted within - you get the code on proof of purchase, open the packet without and the fags go up in flame (ironic).
This is what happens when you let loose retarded fucknuckle cuntbrains wearing "hi-Viz everything" and holding "compliance" type seance sessions.
"Speed" isn't an issue. EVER.
Drive / ride to the conditions.
FFS, Queensland has 60kmh around residential areas and 110 freeways.
"jacinda'll fix it".
Along with poverty, housing, wages, pollution, global warming...
