what were your squat and deadlift at the time, then?
Actually about 3 or 4 full reps at 100kg, with witnesses.

Deadlift was 120kg+ (we ran out of weights).
Didnt do squats, I didn't (and still dont) like that feeling in my quads.

its a valid generalisation. youd have to be a pretty pale sort of basement-dwelling weed to look awful at 6'1" and 106kg.

and I get a mental picture of legs that should have come in a KFC packet.

    pity really.

in that weight class, if you balanced that bench performance with other lifts, you would have been good enough to compete at p/l meets.

Have you forgotten that I weighed 55kg. Were you expecting tree trunks?

WHen I think back now, I should have tried out for that stuff, but weights weren't my thing. I did bugger all. It was just hardcore waterpolo (national age rep level) and soccer. I had an unhealthy lack of fat (in hindsight).

    precisely.

fundamentally, did you bounce that 100kg benchpress up and down for any reason other than hoping it would pull t3h ch1xx0rz?

the only valid reasons *other* than appearance for bothering with BF are fitting within a weight class for some sporting event, and whether it affects performance.

of course if your obese enough that its affecting vital health statistics then its a different matter.

no, but if you could do a comp-legal 100kg BP at that bodyweight you obviously had some seriously good neuromotor unit recruitment and its a pity to waste that on non-power sports. everyone should do what their best at, when possible. greater success and more satisfaction.

Riight, you sound brainwashed by girlie magazines.

I changed my diet because I wasnt comfortable, I didnt feel good. I felt heavy. My clothes didnt fit. I was feeling this in my knees. But of course those aren't acceptable reason. Not at all.

thats just another way of saying that its affecting your health.

you sound like you have a preconceived expectation that I will argue unreasonably on this topic...

The whole reason for ending up like that was competing in a sport that involved a huge amount of upper body strength and very fit (not hugely powerful) legs.

It was in no way affecting my health (the weight wasn't, my diet however...), nor was I considered obese.

not so much that i'm FAT.. i do carry a bit around the mid-section.. normal for a guy my age with my stupid schedule i guess..

im more worried about my general level of fitness. when i was in the Service.. i would run at LEAST 5 miles a morning while smoking a cigar.. now i couldnt WALK 5 miles. ( i can still push a VN1600 Mean streak up from the Red Baron workshop to the showroom by myself .. i have witnesses... )

trying to avoid a heart attack before im 50

no im not interested in quitting smoking.. fuck off
