The wife's is both, you set what assist you want but you have to pedal to get it, but the LH half-grip throttle over-rides that. I've seen a lot like that.

Removing the throttle option sound very like the sort of PC bullshit the various green lobby groups indulge in. Like, "if you don't HAVE to pedal then it must be an evel motorcycle and must be banned.

By the usual methods ... A ticket from a nice Police officer.

    The rules ...

    1. there is no speed limit other than the limit posted on the road

    2. power is limited to 300W

    3. most places you can ride a MTB are considered roads (anywhere public have access)

    https://electricbikesnz.com/2016/08/...ke-laws-in-nz/

Ride it on the road and you may get charged under the moped rules (if it is capable of more than 50 km/hr)

Exceeding that on the road will probably mean much more serious (expensive) charges.

Having seen the results of home conversions, lets wait and see. Most do the conversions on cheap shit bikes with cheap shit brakes. Either they snap a dropout or rip a brake mount off.

Least he will end up with an e-unicycle.

Just because you have one doesnt make it legal.

But why bother having pedals then?

It's the model developed for NZ Post, so you'd fucking hope it was road legal.

Because she wants the exercise, but most of the rides she does from home, (so not having to load the bike up onto the SUV) are longer than she's comfortable doing or involve sections she can only ride with a little help. Like, if she rides the length of the Hutt valley to visit friends and the wind picks up before she returns then she doesn't end up walking 20k home.

Also: fuck the nanny state bureaucrats.

Yep, that's the point I was making. As long as you don't draw attention to yourself, who would know what's legal or not?

It is something thats on the Laws radar now. Some regs will be done but there will be no enforcement as usual.

Until some rabid green back bencher gets into the ear of the police commissioner.

And then there'll be no end of fucking stupidity.

I would guess ... 80% of all the traffic offence notices issued ... THIS would be the reason.

Won't be long before they get number plates and rego charges on the e-bikes.

Can't miss a chance to set up some committee to look into it then drag out a new tax.

Filling up the car for the week ahead this afternoon I notice it's gone up again - $2.33 a liter for 95 I may need to park up the XR6 soon and take the lads wee 1986 Ford Laser - it's cheaper to run.

On that subject, I sat in the passenger seat some weeks back while my daughter drove back to Dunedin. She has a 1999 Toyota Corolla 1.8 auto. Darn thing got smack on 6.0 l per 100 kms on that trip.
