    Spring Ride

Winter can be shitty here and the current example has not fallen far from the tree. Rain or fog or rain...take your pick. I was wondering why I had this motorcycle in the shed that I was hardly using.

    BUT

Today was quite a spring day here - not cold, cloudy/sun, brisk south westerly. Roads mostly dry but for a few shady damp bits . Great riding weather. Not too much traffic either. I just rode a favourite route because of two particular roads I like to ride. About 120k all up. Easy cruise.

Reminded me of why I have a bike. Despite expenses, I'd rather have one than not. Nothing beats a ride in the wind.

Oh, pic off of spring closing in

Yep getting to that weird weather stage where you either over or under dress on the bike.

Went for the first time in 3 months Sat the 11th. Lovely to get back on, but cold for this old turkey.
Sun on my back on the way home helped but the cold seizes the old bod up and I wasn't feeling like I was riding well.

Jumped on my bike last Friday heading up to Plimmerton from Petone to pick up some work products .

First time for a while & the day was mild & dry .

Traffic stopped from Porirua heading north to the roundabout coz a digger had overturned on a trailer towed by a truck .

No worries strait over the catseyes was a real buzz , generally people moved aside in their cars, though I started to get a little dizzy with the concentration after a couple of kays eyeing gaps in traffic .

Was great to back on a bike again

Had to feel sorry for the poor bugger sitting slightly under the speed limit heading north out of Albany (on the back road) on his KTM the other day. I could imagine his face under the full face helmet and it wasn't a happy one...
Caused by the red motorway patrol cop car 3 metres from his rear wheel as he rode along.

The worst/scariest thing on a motorbike (short of someone pulling out infront of you as you're going like 100kmph) is that damn sideways wind. Had plenty of it down in Wellington. Always coming from the side, never the front or back.
The absolute worst is in the Wellington CBD (I don't know what it's like in Auckland), and it's a rather particular windy day and you're riding through major intersections between the tall buildings and as you pass through the lights you go past that gap in the buildings and get a massive, unexpected (if you're not used to it) gust of sideways wind.

We've been getting some gnarly winds at this end of the Tasman, too. They're not so bad on the scooter because it all just blows through the middle of it. On the big Duc' though, with it's big 90's fairings.. It's like a sail!

Have a look at this. This was the storm that was bigger on the map than New Zealand. Or something...I went out for a spin...best ride ever.
