Car parks. For example the ones at Massey Albany are nearly deserted on weekends.

Bit of a thread resurrection but what are the best access points to these places?
I'm hoping to get some practice on sand and gravel roads before a tour next year.

    I'm central Auckland based.

    Thanks

River head you go to River head Village from state highway 16.

Google forestry Road. Its off deacon Road.

Turn left at the first roundabout. Then turn right at the first corner. Then keep going and you'll come to a gate. On the left hand side there's a spot you can ride through.

Woodhill is easily off Google maps.

And waiuku beaches are as well

You have more than 11 months, head north. I just read yesterday that the Far North has 800+km of tar seal and 1600+km of gravel. Whoda thunk it?

Sorry, a bit cheeky. But if you are riding a 650 then getting a bit further out of dodge is very feasible, even for a (big) day trip.

May be beneficial to check out if Pro rider are having any gravel training days within your time frame. Pretty sure they use Woodhill area etc, for their gravel days.
    Manopausal.
