    Just seen this
Holden’s agreement to supply the NZ police with vehicles is believed to be in place till 2020-21. Holden is not saying but under the agreement it can be expected that the rebadged Insignia variants will appear in NZ police livery from next year.

They have 4 Toyotas on the beat in Auckland

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/713...e-holden-fleet
The official cars of New Zealand Police are Holdens, but eagle-eyed petrolheads have spotted there are four Toyotas on our roads.

The sightings suggest just how close Toyota came to getting the vehicle fleet contract that ticked over this June.

Police put out a request last year for carmakers to bid for the contract to take over the fleet of roughly 3100 cars – excluding undercover vehicles – by the end of June 2015.

Toyota and Skoda were among those competing with incumbent Holden.

The four Toyotas – two of which are in Wellington, one in the Bay of Plenty, and one in Counties-Manukau – are prototypes that police agreed to buy whatever the outcome of the tendering process.

Presumably the 3.5 V6 Toyota. Strikes me as a good replacement for the old Commy.

Guess some kick-back won it for Holden

Might wanna look into that. Been a long time since diesel was dirtier than petrol, when it comes to passenger cars.

It seems the Europeans are changing their minds regarding diesel cars.

I dont get it in the US they are facing the same problem with the goverment car and taxi fleet having go rid of the crown Vic
I cant see why Holden or Ford Auzzie could put together a car on a chassis or build a RWD simple car for the goverment in LHD and RHD. Its crazy.

When I was working in Singapore around 2000, these things were everywhere.
A '70's Toyota Crown platform with Hi Ace running gear & some modern ish lights & bumpers.
    Just a utilitarian commercial sedan.
There was a Nissan equivalent that was basically a '70's 260c platform with running gear from a Navara diesel ute.
Seems your theory isn't too tough for some manufacturers to comprehend.
Singapore Govt only allowed them to do one million KM before being retired.
A weekend away to Batam or Bintan island would turn up the ones they had sold off or given away with over one million that were still. . err. . . Going.

The Park Royal Hotel in Wgtn has a couple of ex-Singapore "London" taxis which they got once they had reached the million KM mark. Diesel powered (probably Nissan or Toyota)
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

What caught the big cities out was just the amount of soot the diesels put in the air making the cities smoggy and dirty. The manufacturers made them think they were cleaner than petrol but the VW scandal showed the logic was flawed.

I guess the particulate filters can be improved but it seems the rush is on now to electric anyway with petrol cars also facing bans later on than the diesels.
    Cheers
