The ship cost to Christchurch is obscene. I only went through with it because I still save around $150 from buying local 300 metres from my house.

You could have sold me a stainless steel wooden top roll cab except you wanted to charge me $182 to get it from Auckland. Not happening. I have a quote on my desk for a Powerbuilt one (bigger, sturdier) for $1020 including GST. Yours at $679 plus (get this) $182 for shipping means the Powerbuilt one wins.

Here's a thing: your ship cost to customers isn't supposed to be your major profit centre. And I simply do not believe you if you tell me you're passing on at cost. If you are you (and by extension your customers) are getting ripped off. I deal professionally with some freight forwarders - I will give you a referral if you like.

LIke I say - you could have sold a grands worth of stuff this morning but you only sold $350 - your loss.

Yep, massive differences between companies in the cost of shipping both here and internationally. Some do indeed use packing and shipping as a profit centre, presumably to partially offset "apparently good" purchase prices.

It's like buying from overseas. I rarely buy ex the USA because their freight/ship costs are horrendous. David Silver or ebay UK way better because Her Majesty operates an effective postal service there. Unlike here in the dominions.

YouShop are a good option, especially their economy rates.

MyUS.com have some good fixed rate options, plus their normal charges are based on weight only. They are usually faster than YouShop.

But it's hard to beat Royal Mail prices from the UK.

They might be passing on the shipping close to cost.
Shipping too does the whole 'big company discount structure' & Container Door may not have been a big enough shipper to get a good deal on their contract.
Where I used to work we could get a 1m2 200kg pallet Welly to Auck for 30$, now where I work that costs us 150$ or so. Fuck the courier company charges us about 30$ for .025m2 5kg package to do the same (or 150$ for 25kg).
Shipping aint cheap for the smaller shippers cause like always someone's gotta subsidize the big guys
