The 52 year old, riding a Harley Davidson, left the road and crashed through a fence.

    Sad to hear.

Weird they specify the motorcycle brand. What relevance is that?

Is it bad taste to make a joke about the HD heading back to the fields to do some tractoring?

    Probably.

That is weird actually. I don't think I recall any article where they have named the brand of another motorcycle.

Because no other m/c brand has anywhere near the same public name recognition?

Thinking about it - probably because HD is a very publicly known name.

You know how it goes - you meet someone new at a Christmas party and say you are into motorcycles - their next question 99% of the time is 'is it a Harley?'

My response is 'shit no I'm only 53 - it's at least ten years before I have to own a Harley...' followed by a awkward silence.

There are the 20 year old Harleys with 6,000 km's on them owned by the doctor's, lawyer's and accountant's ... the brand new one's with 500 km's that hasn't traveled further than the first cafe out of town. And the rest with 50,000 km's and on their third engine rebuild.

Yeah there are some impressive numbers on the web for well maintained HD's. The general word is if you baby the big engines they won't last as long and glaze bores. Give em some stick.
