Im using Castrol 1 TTX. Do some brands give more splurge or are they all about the same?
If the mix has a bit too much oil the result is as you say. But then a bit too much oil is usually better than not enough
Or if the premix has sat for a while, the lighter fuel component has partly flashed off, leaving a mix with a bit more oil and the result is an oily exhaust. Tip it in your neighbours' Prius and mix a fresh tin![]()
I used to use Castrol but it was a bit spoogy, power valve was sticky and I had carbon in me pipe. This is probably more a reflection on my limp right wrist and slow technical riding. I don't get much chance to really wind the bikes up off road, I keep running into scenery.
Motul 710 is the lube of choice nowadays and I have had zero issues. Even after a day of mud plugging and paddling their is no fouling.
Castrol may have the edge smell wise, but it's close.
Both my bikes are oil injection, not pre mix.
My mate has been running his KX 125 at 40:1, agip 2t, the last two weekends. No problems at all, even mud plugging yesterday. Slightly higher oil ratio for harder riding, 32-35:1
Manopausal.
Spooge is caused by jetting not the oil so much. Incomplete combustion means more raw fuel out the pipe. That fuel contains oil.
Get on the bike specific forums, the usually have needle recommendations. Needle right first then everything will be easy after that.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
They worn Needle jet always results in a rich spot in the mid range and the dreaded oily pipe smokey exhaust.
it make the powerband narrower.
I would have thought ther KDX220 would have had the pwk flat slide carb.
There was some people making Needle jets for Keihin aftermarket.
But as its a faily common quirk most specialist forum sites will have a alternate needle that should cure the rich spots.
My old CR500 for instance you got a CR125 needle from a specific year that transformed the bike.
It blew that much smoke i thought it was a cluth side crank seal plus had a 125 powerband (brought off Trademe)

5yrs?,! In constant use maybe. Plenty of PWK around that are fine. Good light and a magnifier will show if they are ovalised. I agree that is a problem and have made replacement needle valves. The tower is replaceable if you look around. I put a KX125 35mm carb tower into my 39mm carb when I damaged it with some grit that must have got in doing a needle change maybe. Same size tower.
KDX need needle change from new, as do GasGas. They use a skinny needle from the start so the pilot system doesn't really do much.

I posted a crowd that makes new aftermarket towers the other day somewhere.

Not cheap though i would go with the OS needle.
Or a new OKO.
I know he Smaller PWK's list the Needle JET
