No doubt, in keeping with their "up to date" technology, the bike will be powered by Leclanche Cells...

Why is HD doing this?
Because their current target market are getting older and older and consequently more stuck in their ways. They are just not picking up 'new' riders.
The are stuck in a never ending jerk-circle of old me with beer-pots, grey beards and leather tassels. The Motor Company needs need blood.
Side note I see in a mag I was reading over the break if you buy a Sportster and trade it on a big block within 12 months they will give you your purchase price of the Sporty as trade value. No loss for a years motoring.
Yep - They've done that with Sportsters and their trade values before - In the US at least. It's a good idea and one which gets people into the brand.
I love my little Sportster 48. It's a keeper for me and I was really looking forward to seeing how the Livewire turned out once it reached the reality stage. I like the final look and it sounds as though the chassis is fitted with good components but that price is going to make it no more than a novelty here in NZ. That's not what H-D needs IMHO and won't get them the new numbers they reckon they need.
The roadster that was shown late last year looks more like the sort of package that they need to be putting out. An H-D version of what others are already making. I'd love a ride on the Livewire but it hasn't answered the leccy bike question I think many of us are now asking.
And apparently Ducati are close to production of something electric.
I quite like the electric hyper mock-up.

Lightning is releasing the Strike (expected in March) with 150mile range, 150MPH top speed & 35min fast charge for $13k USD. That's less than half the price of the LiveWire.
Harley have a lot to do to convince the geriatrics to climb aboard the electric train or get the new-breed to spend twice as much just for a eagle on the tank & some tassels on the handlebars

I don't understand why Honda are not pouring out electric scooters (thing a electric Honda cub) and small bikes with a arse kicking decent bike around the corner. They have electric motors in their cars in various forms so they are playing with the tech.
Is it a gay thing?
Seems no-one is as yet selling electric bikes for the general market, none listed on trade me and a quick google search shows no one selling anything remotely resembling a road bike for sale in NZ with any kind of dealership or service centre, with the exception of Ubco which is pretty much a C90 type thing...
I have ignored the available electric scroters.....

Cycletreads had a Zero demo bike a few years back. That's the only electric bike that I can think of seeing in NZ.

Was a guy doing cape reinga to bluff at the end of december on a Zero. Just to say he was the first to do it on an e.motorbike. Only time I have seen one...

think the big players know which way the wind is blowing (automated electric cars via UBER like order system, auto go charge when they get low/sign off/sign on when charged all automated) personal driving vehicle transport is a thing of the past in their minds... only 3rd world/developing countries will have actual driver cars in ~ 30-50 years time i'd think, enjoy the ride fellas....
This one looks a bit cheaper.
